Care

Natural Material

Our leather games are handcrafted, one-of-a-kind pieces made just for you, designed to last a lifetime with proper care. Leather is a natural material with an open structure that will evolve over time. All our leathers are cowhide, which may show marks from their natural environment. We preserve the authentic look of the leather, so some marks may be visible, these natural imperfections are part of the uniqueness of the product.

General Care Instructions

To maintain the beauty and longevity of your leather items, keep the following instructions in mind.

Leather treatments

Use a soft, dry cloth to gently wipe away dust and dirt from the surface of the leather. We recommend you treat your leather item with a weather-proofing spray. High-quality leather conditioner is also recommended every 6 months to keep the leather soft and supple. Choose a treatment product that is suitable for the type of leather used in your items. When using leather treatments (and especially for the first time), always test the product in an inconspicuous area of your bag first, before applying it to the entire product.

Storage

Store your leather items in their original packaging or a dust bag when not in use. Avoid overfilling or bending the leather, as this can cause permanent creases or damage. When not in use, store your bag in it’s dust bag away from moisture and variations of hot or cold temperatures.

Protection

Keep your leather items away from direct sunlight and heat sources, as prolonged exposure can cause the leather to dry out and fade. Avoid contact with water, oils, perfumes, and cosmetics. If your leather does get wet, blot it dry with a soft, absorbent cloth and allow it to air dry naturally. Do not use a hairdryer or other heat sources to speed up the drying process.

Handling Scratches and Stains

Small scratches can often be minimized by gently rubbing the area with a clean finger or a soft cloth, as the natural oils from your skin can help to blend the scratch into the surrounding leather. For stubborn stains, consider using a specialized leather cleaner.

Avoid Harsh Chemicals

Do not use harsh chemicals, solvents, or household cleaners on your leather items. These can damage the leather and strip away its natural oils.

Avoid Direct heat

Do not use heat to dry your Sal Gabriel product, just let it dry naturally and away from radiators. Direct heat will dry out the leather. In the case that it has been dried too much, use moisturizing products.

Enjoying the Aging Process

As your leather backgammon games and card boxes age, they will develop a unique patina that reflects your personal use and care. This natural aging process is a hallmark of high-quality leather and adds to the distinctive charm of your items. Embrace the changes and appreciate the individuality of each piece as it matures.
